❊ Testimonials

Our Pup Parents Love Us!

Seriously! But don’t take our word for it, here are some things people have to say about us.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Birmingham Dog Rescue. From start to finish, they went above and beyond to help me secure a shelter dog from a high kill shelter in California—the very same shelter our last beloved dog came from. Their team worked tirelessly across state lines, navigating logistics, communicating clearly, and making sure every detail was handled with care and professionalism.

What impressed me most was their dedication to doing what’s best for the dog. They treated him as if he were already part of their own family, ensuring his safety, comfort, and well-being every step of the way. It’s rare to find a rescue so committed, compassionate, and hardworking.

Thanks to Birmingham Dog Rescue, this dog has a real chance at the stable, loving life he deserves. I’m incredibly grateful for their support, their heart, and the life-changing work they do every day.

I would recommend them to anyone looking to adopt, foster, or support a rescue that truly makes a difference.

  • No problem — there are so many ways to make a difference!

Even if you can’t foster or adopt, you can still help save lives by donating or volunteering. Your donations go directly toward medical care, food, and transportation for dogs in need, while volunteers help with everything from events and fundraising to transport and social media outreach.

Every bit of support matters — whether it’s your time, your voice, or a few dollars. Together, we can rescue more dogs and give them the love they deserve.

  • Our dogs come from a variety of places — including high-kill shelters across the U.S. and local shelters throughout Metro Detroit. Many of these dogs are at risk of euthanasia due to overcrowding or lack of resources, and we work hard to give them a second chance.

Through partnerships with shelters and transport networks nationwide, we bring these dogs to safety, provide medical care and love, and help them find their forever homes right here in Michigan.

  • We don’t currently have a physical shelter — Birmingham Dog Rescue is a fully foster-based rescue. That means every dog in our care lives in a loving foster home instead of a kennel. This approach allows our dogs to decompress, learn, and experience love and routine while waiting for their forever families.

Our incredible network of foster families is the heart of what we do. They provide safety, comfort, and stability for dogs coming from difficult situations.

While we’re proud of our foster-based model, we do hope to one day expand into a physical space that will allow us to help even more dogs in need. Until then, every foster home, volunteer, and donor makes it possible for us to keep saving lives.

  • Every dollar you give directly helps save dogs in need. Your donation supports:

    • Medical care — vaccinations, spay/neuter surgeries, emergency treatments, and ongoing health needs.

    • Transportation — bringing dogs safely from high-kill shelters and unsafe situations to loving foster homes.

    • Food and supplies — providing nutritious meals, cozy bedding, and enrichment toys while dogs wait for adoption.

    • Training and rehabilitation — helping dogs overcome fear, neglect, or trauma so they’re ready for forever homes.

    • Community outreach and adoption events — connecting great dogs with loving families.

As a nonprofit, we rely entirely on the generosity of our community. Every donation — big or small — helps us rescue, heal, and rehome dogs who deserve a second chance.

  • Yes! Birmingham Dog Rescue is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. This means all donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Being a 501(c)(3) ensures transparency and accountability — every dollar we receive goes directly toward rescuing, caring for, and rehoming dogs in need. Your support truly helps us continue our mission to save lives and give every dog the love they deserve.
